Six Drinks To Help You Lose Weight

It's never easy to lose weight. It becomes more harder as you get older. If you're having trouble losing weight, take a look at your beverage selections.
"If you're trying to lose weight as you get older, what you drink is extremely essential," says Jonathan Valdez, RDN, owner of Genki Nutrition and a representative for the New York State Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. "Studies have shown that certain drinks, such as sugar-sweetened beverages, may contribute to weight gain and should be avoided because of their liquid carbohydrate composition, which does not produce satiety and encourages you to seek out additional calories at future meals."

However, one drink, in particular, has been proved to aid weight loss: water.

"On the other side, water has been demonstrated to be a good choice for weight loss," explains Valdez. "The results of randomized controlled trials demonstrate that drinking water instead of caloric beverages are the most efficient way to lose weight."

However, if you want to jumpstart your weight reduction, you don't have to limit yourself to simply water. According to certified dietitians, there are six drinking behaviors that will help you lose weight faster as you become older. 1. Fruit, such as strawberries, can be added to your water.

"Strawberries can sweeten and flavor water naturally while also providing fiber, potassium, folate, and antioxidants. Fresh and frozen strawberries are one of the best sources of vitamin C "Bonnie Taub-Dix, RD, a registered dietitian and founder of BetterThanDieting.com, agrees.

"A serving of strawberries contains the same amount of vitamin C as an orange, which is all we need for the day!"Vitamin C supports collagen in the skin and bones, while the strawberries keep you feeling fuller for longer than a glass of water."

2. Limit your intake of alcoholic beverages.

"Limit alcoholic beverages, particularly cocktails, which might add extra empty calories," Valdez advises. "If you consider one serving of alcohol every day, which is approximately 100 calories, you will consume an additional 700 calories per week."

3. Make a cup of herbal tea.

"Drinking herbal tea earns you the same amount of water credit, and it's a delicious way to get fluids into your diet whether it's served hot or cold," notes Taub-Dix."I frequently slice an apple or pear and place it in my tea mug before pouring hot water over it. This way, as I finish my last sip, I can munch on some baked fruit. This natural sweetness aids in the completion of a meal."

4. A protein shake is an excellent way to begin the day.

"A high-protein total diet replacement (35 percent carbohydrate, 40 percent protein, 25 percent fat) has been shown to help fat loss by increasing energy expenditure and fat oxidation," explains Valdez.

5. Instead of juice, opt for entire fruits and vegetables.

"Fiber, minerals, and antioxidants abound in fruits and vegetables. The best part is that they are low in calories "Valdez agrees. "Juicing them removes the fiber, which aids satiety. According to the CDC, barely one out of every ten Americans consumes enough fruits and vegetables. Do you eat half of your plate with fruits and vegetables? 2 to 3 cups of veggies and 1.5 to 2 cups of fruits per day are recommended."

6. Low-fat milk should be consumed.

Make a glass of low-fat milk for yourself. Participants who increased their diet of low-fat dairy items to 4–5 servings per day reported more weight reduction than those who did not, according to a 2019 study published in the journal Nutrients.
Another plus: according to a 2020 Brigham Young University study, persons who drank non-fat and low-fat milk (as opposed to 2 percent and whole milk) had roughly 4.5 years less biological aging than those who consumed higher fat milk.
